DigiCash Setup

Connect your DigiCash merchant account to accept automated Tanzanian mobile money push payments (USSD prompt) from subscribers on Airtel Money, M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, and HaloPesa.

You need a registered and approved DigiCash merchant account. Sign up for a free account if you do not have one.
1

Retrieve API Credentials

Once your merchant account is approved, the DigiCash team issues your API credentials:

  • Client ID — identifies your merchant account
  • Client Secret (API Key) — authenticates your requests

Keep the Client Secret private — anyone holding it can initiate charges on your account.

2

Activate Your Mobile Networks

Each mobile network is a separate assigned service on your DigiCash merchant account. Customers can only pay through networks that DigiCash has activated for you, so make sure every network your subscribers use is enabled:

  • Airtel Money
  • M-Pesa (Vodacom) — requires merchant registration with M-Pesa first; the DigiCash team coordinates connecting your M-Pesa wallet
  • Tigo Pesa
  • HaloPesa

VillageHub automatically detects the customer's network from their phone number and charges through the matching service — no extra configuration needed on your side.

3

Configure Settings in VillageHub

Go to your Admin PanelSettingsPayments. Select DigiCash (Tanzania) as the payment gateway and paste your Client ID and Client Secret.

Running multiple sites? You can also point an individual router at DigiCash (or its own credentials) from the router's payment override on the router detail page.

4

Payment Confirmations Are Automatic

There is no webhook to configure in any DigiCash dashboard — VillageHub sends its callback URL with every payment request, and DigiCash posts the result there the moment your customer approves or declines the prompt. Every confirmation is additionally re-verified against the DigiCash API before internet access is granted. For reference, the callback endpoint is:

Callback URL (set automatically)
https://isp.village-hub.net/api/payments/digicash/callback/{tenant-subdomain}

Good to know: DigiCash transactions are limited to TZS 500 – 5,000,000. The USSD approval prompt works on both feature phones and smartphones.

You are ready!

Subscribers now get a payment prompt on their phone at checkout, and their hotspot or broadband service activates instantly once they approve it.
